Bloomin' at Lehigh

Training camp is a time of optimism and hype.  Jeremy Bloom is at the center of it on the Philadelphia Eagles squad.  Bloom was out of football for his final 2 years of college.  Drafted by the Eagles in the 5th round of 2006 draft, he never saw the field.  Stuck on injured reserve all season with various injuries attributed to his lack of football shape, Bloom studied and rebuilt his form.  After running a 4.49 at the pre-draft combine, he is now hitting the clock in the 4.2's.  All hope was that Bloom would become a star Returner.  Things are now changing.  Bloom is getting a lot of reps as a receiver, and he is making the best of the opportunity.  Hype it is, only time will tell.

Why can't we grow new body parts? (video)

A very pragmatic and inspiring presentation. Watching this was possibly the best 20 minutes I've spent all year. The presentation begins with the current state of healthcare and it's near future. Alan Russell then goes on to discuss regenerative cell generation and the amazing things that will be possible with proper funding.  I noticed some technology leaders in the audience, including Burt Rutan, the designer of SpaceShipOne.

Just Incredible!  You must watch. 

Alan Russell studies regenerative medicine -- a breakthrough way of thinking about disease and injury by helping the body to rebuild itself. He shows how engineered tissue that "speaks the body's language" has helped a man regrow his lost fingertip, how stem cells can rebuild damaged heart muscle, and how cell therapy can regenerate the skin of burned soldiers. Before you buy an Apple iPhone, you should read the ‘fine print’ in AT&T’s wireless service contract. The first question every customer should ask is ---Why did Apple, the standard for innovative techno-cool, partner with a telecom curmudgeon that has a penchant for not caring about their customers. AT&T’s “Data Connect Unlimited” wireless network used for the iPhone is slow, expensive and a downright restrictive network, not ‘unlimited” as the name implies. Most reporters have been praising Apple’s new phone. Yet it is clear that while the phone is the new wunderkind of industrial design and customer interface, the reporters missed the main issue --- This is a wireless phone and broadband service, and an AT&T control issue -- not a techno-toy issue. And the fine print and tricks of the wireless trade are downright offensive and need to be addressed.

The Weird Things People Eat Around the World - Gadling

Half the fun of traveling is getting out and enjoying all sorts of foods you're not used to eating. A simple trip to the corner market or grocery store in a foreign land can keep you amused for hours. Take the example above for instance: Cone Pizza! This picture was snapped in Seoul, South Korea, and you know what? It looks pretty damn tasty. Can I get one in the States yet? Rebirth Of An Old Laptop

I dusted off an old laptop thats been sitting on my shelf.  A fresh install of XP and it's back in working order.  This machine is going to be used almost strictly for the web.  I won't be installing my typical apps on it, only web necessities.  With that said, I'll run down the list of what I have installed on this machine:

• Will be adding Trillian and a good text Editor

I was toying with doing a dual boot with Ubuntu Linux, but I think that may go against my goal here.  I simply want a fast web browsing laptop.  Hopefully, I'll be able to keep it that way.
